This may come as a surprise to some of you, but I’m a Long Island girl. It’s often a surprise to my colleagues because I have no accent (I survived growing up on Long Island without one!). Plus I haven’t lived on Long Island since I graduated high school. But I still have a special place in my heart for the island – and I like to keep up with wedding venues and locations.
I wanted to share some beautiful photos from recent weddings at the Bridgeview Yacht Club. The venue is in Island Park, on the south shore of Nassau County, only a town or two over from where I grew up. It’s a gorgeous venue, right on the water and very popular with brides (plus sweet sixteens and other events). In fall 2012, Island Park (and most of southern Long Island) were hit really hard by Superstorm Sandy. The Bridgeview Yacht Club was not spared, but as you can tell from these photos, it has rebounded beautifully.
Jenna and Kenny were married on July 3, 2013 in Roslyn Heights, New York. The couple had a beautiful summer day for their ceremony, which was held in the outdoor garden at The Royalton at the Roslyn Country Club. The setting couldn’t be more perfect for the romantic wedding, with plenty of blooming flowers to add color against a backdrop of greenery and brick. The reception was held inside the Royalton, a colonial style mansion that dates back to 1918. The historic building was the perfect backdrop for the simple, elegant wedding, which featured centerpieces of white flowers with floating candles (my favorite!), with a fun pop of violet, coordinating with the fun, bright bridesmaid dresses.
Unique ideas: We see the personalized bridal gown hangers often now, but I loved the hanger for the groom’s tux – complete with the black and white paint and bow to make it look like a tux. Very clever! I asked where the bride found them – they were a handmade gift from a family friend.
Steal this idea: I love the sparkly monogram letters with the guest book. It’s a bit of sparkle that still complements the understated elegance of their day.
My favorite detail: I love the venue – and next time I visit family and friends on Long Island I have to visit! – but I adore the photo of the dress in the bridal suite, I love the dress, love the toile wallpaper.
Bride’s favorite moment: “Stepping out with my father and watching the look on Kenny’s face was my favorite moment of our ceremony- well, besides our kiss!”
Groom’s favorite moment: “After our ceremony we headed up to Jenna’s bridal suite to get a moment to ourselves and try all of the food that was being served at cocktail hour. This is where it started to soak in with me and I was really happy to have this moment alone with my wife, starting our new chapter and of course, enjoying some really good food.”
Best wishes, Jenna & Kenny!
