Since everyone else is focused on Christmas this week (as am I!) I thought I’d focus my Friday Favorites on the one piece of Christmas entertaining it’s not too late to change – your beverage menu! At a holiday party I planned earlier this week we incorporated some fabulous signature cocktails – I can’t take credit for them – that goes to Design Cuisine! – and they were a big hit. So much so that I’ve decided to make a modified version of one for Christmas day in my house. Here are some fun suggestions (of varying levels of difficulty and number of odd ingredients) in case you want to add one to your menu. Unless your Christmas dinner is huge, I suggest on focusing on just one to supplement the other drinks that you offer. Cheers!
#5 – Candy Cane Cocktail
This one is fun to look at, and if you like fruity, minty flavors, will be fun to drink as well! Ingredients include: strawberry vodka, white creme de menthe. cranberry juice and a candy cane for garnish. Recipe at Martha Stewart.
#4 – Gingerbread Cookie Cocktail
This one takes a bit more work but if you love gingerbread, it’s worth it. You’ll need to make the gingerbread flavored simple syrup (ingredients include: molasses, gingerroot, cinnamon sticks and cloves) in addition to the cocktail, which requires vanilla vodka, half and half and coffee liqueur. #3 – Grinch Punch
This one is actually non-alcoholic, which is probably good because it’s name and color probably would appeal to the under 21 set. I’m sure you could find a way to make it boozy if you tried, wink wink! Ingredients include sugar, almond extract, evaporated milk, lemon-lime seltzer and (of course) green food coloring. #2 – Peppermint White Russian
White Russians are my husband’s favorite drink so naturally I’m excited about this recipe for a holiday version. You basically just swap out the regular Kahlua for a Peppermint Mocha flavor. Recipe at Pink Parsley.
#1 – Pear and Sparkling Cider Cocktail
This is actually the one I will be serving on Christmas, a similar version to the one we served at the holiday party. It’s sparkling cider, bosc pear and bourboun – and it’s delicious. Since I already know it’s delicious and my mother loves a glass of bourbon every once and a while, I know that the two of us will be happy with this cocktail! Recipe at Martha Stewart.
