winter white tablescape inspiration

My husband and I moved to a new house a few weeks ago, and instead of living in the DC suburbs, just barely inside the Beltway, we now live in what DC folks call ‘the country’ – about an hour or so west of DC, closer to the Blue Ridge Mountains. Any of you who actually live in ‘the country’ have permission to laugh at the characterization of an hour west of DC as the country. One major difference between our former apartment and our current house is the weather. We now live just far enough away for slightly colder weather and more snow! So while my friends in DC have barely a dusting, we have about 3-4 inches already! This is the view from our front door:

So since I am surrounded by white, I felt inspired to write about winter white tablescapes. Whether you are looking to plan a winter wedding or a winter dinner, or are just looking to add a bit of winter flair to your next dinner party, here are some ideas I love:

Let’s start with the humble pine cone – nothing quite says winter (and rustic!) like a pinecone. I love these frosted ones as a place card for dinner – especially since the place setting is white, the green ribbon stands out as a pop of color.  This is an easy DIY project. You can use real pinecones if you have trees nearby or you can by faux ones at a craft store. Target sells bags of pinecones that are scented with cinnamon – but be warned, they are rather pungent. For something a little more fancy, you can add some branches to your table. Craft stores usually have a wide selection of wintry looking branches that you can put it vases, but they also have ones that are bendable into wreaths, like this. I like how they paired this with white painted animal figurines – often this is something you might have hanging around the house. Photo via Style Me Pretty:

Here is an example of how branches can be used upright. I like the combination of the tall branches with the low floral arrangements. The floating candles add a soft glow. Photo via Plan It Event Design:

This tablescape proves that you don’t have to use branches and pinecones to achieve a winter look. This low arrangement of all-white flowers (you can achieve this look with any variety) paired with all white linens is an elegant winter look. For a touch of glamour you can add a silver or gold charger, as in this photo.

If you prefer to add some greenery to your table, add a swag to your table, and place some pinecones. These candles have a green pattern, but I would prefer something in plain white. Photo via Centsational Girl:

Those are a few ideas for your winter table. Now I’m going to get back to snuggling with a hot cup of tea as it snows outside.
